Maria Barca is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work & Criminal Justice. She teaches a variety of classes, including cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, and medical anthropology and sociology. Professor Barca's research interests intersect health and disease with gender, class, and sexuality, emphasizing how culture and society influence who gets sick, how and why they get sick, and if they get better.
Professor Barca is also currently pursuing her Master of Library & Information Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a focus on academic libraries.
