Leadership Students Give to Pediatric Center

Brianna Wittig and Ashley Morales delivering the packages at Hackensack HospitalIn November, Brianna Wittig of the Arts and Sciences Leadership Cohort spearheaded a servant-leadership project in partnership with the local Hackensack Hospital. She proposed that the cohort lead an institute-wide project to raise money to buy Christmas presents for the children in the Pediatric Center at the hospital. The cohort agreed that the gift packages would be geared more towards the older kids in the pediatric center since the older end of the spectrum tends to be forgotten in the donation of Christmas gifts. Members of the Arts and Sciences cohort took shifts tabling outside the cafeteria at Seton Hall to promote the project and collect donations. The money raised was used to buy packages that contained adult coloring books, a fresh package of colored pencils, and a homemade card written by students in the Buccino Leadership Institute.

The project was a tremendous success, raising $500 dollars to create 45 packages from those funds. Arts and Science Leadership students Brianna Wittig and Ashley Morales drove to Hackensack Hospital themselves and personally delivered the packages to the children, who were overjoyed. The project was a student driven leadership experience centered on the Institute's value of civic engagement that brought all leadership students closer to the local community.
