Packing for College

Deciding what to bring when you move on to campus can be a tough and often confusing decision. To make things easier we have compiled a list of recommended items/suggestions as well as those items that you should not bring to campus.

You may wish to bring: *
tick check alarm clock tick check pillows and bedding (we recommend XL twin size 84” x 36”)
tick check towels tick check throw rug for the bathroom
tick check bath tote or bucket tick check toiletries
tick check cleaning supplies tick check 2 wastebaskets (one for normal trash, one for recycling)
tick check printer tick check ironing board & iron
tick check desk / floor lamp (no halogen or multiple plastic shade lamps) tick check laundry bag / basket
tick check dry erase board for outside door tick check microwave (800 watt maximum)
tick check phone for landline tick check refrigerator (4 cubic feet maximum)
tick check camera tick check school supplies
tick check TV (cable ready) / VCR / DVD / cable wire tick check UL approved power strip with circuit breaker
Items you may wish to bring to Ora Manor and Turrell Manor Apartments ONLY
tick check pots / pans tick check electric cooking appliances
You may NOT bring: *
X amplified instruments X appliances with an exposed heating element including sandwich/ panini grill
X candles, incense or air freshener plug-ins X upholstered furniture that does not meet California technical bulletin 133
X decorative holidays lights X cinder blocks or bed risers
X extension cords or multiple plug adapters X pets
X multiple plastic shade, lava lamps or halogen lamps X lofts

  • All residence halls are air conditioned.
  • Some residence halls do not include overhead lighting. We highly recommend bringing your own lamp(s). Halogen lamps and multiple plastic shade or multi-bulb lamps are prohibited.

* If you plan to bring an electrical item or piece of furniture not on this list, please contact our office to be sure it will be permitted.
