Third-Party Recruiters Professional Guidelines

Seton Hall University’s Career Center invites third-party recruiting/staffing organizations to participate in on-campus recruiting events and eRecruiting services and serve as the sourcing agent for internships and full-time professional opportunities. 

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) defines a third-party recruiter as an individual, agency or organization that recruits candidates for temporary, part-time or full-time employment opportunities for another organization.  The following guidelines, adapted from (NACE) and the Principles of Fair Conduct for Temporary Employment Agencies, outline professional standards of conduct to insure a productive and successful recruiting relationship. 

To source and identify recent graduates and experienced alumni, third-party recruiters agree to:  

  • promote “real time” employment opportunities and provide sample listings of such at career fairs and through online postings;
  • not charge Seton Hall University applicants for any services rendered;
  • respond promptly to requests from applicants and Career Center professionals;
  • follow EEO standards in the screening, recruiting and referring of qualified applicants to employers without regard to the race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation or disability;
  • provide accurate information to applicants and Seton Hall University’s Career Center on the terms and conditions of the services;
  • obtain written consent from applicants prior to disclosing any information to organizations (Under no circumstances can applicant/student information be disclosed for anything other than recruiting purposes, nor can it be sold or provided to other entities.); 
  • insure that alcoholic beverages will not be a part of the recruiting process;
  • provide applicants with copies of documents, including signed applications/agreements;
  • not prohibit, restrict or penalize applicants from accepting a job directly with a client company.  
Internship/part-time opportunities for students

Seton Hall’s Internship Program provides students with pre-screened, pre-professional work experiences with a diversity of organizations.  Since our Internship Program is dependent upon a “partnership” with the hiring organization, The Career Center must work closely with the third-party agency, the intern’s supervisor and the hiring/sponsoring organization. 

Therefore, a third-party recruiting agency is viewed as the sourcing liaison for the hiring/sponsoring organization.  To support a third-party recruiter’s relationship with the hiring/sponsoring organization and to insure a productive learning experience for Seton Hall students, the following guidelines will assist us in developing and monitoring internship experiences. 

To source and identify students for internships, third-party recruiters agree to the criteria outlined on the front page and the following:

  • Third-party recruiters will provide The Career Center with a copy of any agreements that are utilized as part of the sourcing or recruiting process.
  • Third-party recruiters will disclose the client, or clients, that the third-party recruiter is representing, to whom the student’s/applicant’s credentials will be disclosed, and the types of positions for which the third- party recruiter is recruiting.  The Career Center will be permitted to verify this information by contacting the client(s). This verification allows us to insure that the internship meets minimum criteria.  This verification will not infringe on the relationship that the third-party recruiting agency has with the clients.
